Dams in a European context

Geiranger 25 - 27 June 2001

The Norwegian National Committee on Large Dams (NNCOLD) has the great pleasure of welcoming you to the 5th ICOLD European Symposium in Geiranger on the 25-27 June 2001.

The previous European Symposium has been held in Chambèry (France) 1993, Crans-Montana (Switzerland) 1995, Stockholm (Sweden) 1996 and Barcelona (Spain) 1998. The event in Barcelona attracted 600 participants.

The symposium is part of ICOLD European Club’s activity. In accordance with the intentions for the ICOLD European Club, the symposium will be arranged in an informal atmosphere, with focus on topics that are particularly relevant to several European countries.

ICOLD European Symposium will be arranged with the backdrop of the breathtaking scenery of the Norwegian fjords. The Congress centre is Union Hotel in Geiranger, situated at the head of the famous and spectacular Geiranger fjord. In the Nordic mid-summer, the unspoilt nature of the Norwegian fjords is a place worth while to visit and will be a place to remember. In addition, the pre-conference tour by coach and boat through the impressive fjord landscape from Bergen, the venue of the co-operating conference Hydropowerą01, will further enhance your memories from the Land of the Midnight Sun.

We are looking forward to this gathering of dam experts and we do hope to recreate the pleasant atmosphere from the ICOLD Annual Meeting in Norway 1995. We can promise you some interesting and memorable days in Norway.
